Under the Prime Minister youth program National Youth helpline has been launched with a toll-free number of 0800-69457 at Higher Education Commission (HEC) will provide psychosocial support and counselling to youngsters all over Pakistan.
This helpline will boost the confidential spirit and a gateway to access information and guidance for resolving different problems related to psychosocial issues and carrier development as in different perspectives regarding health, economics and entrepreneurship.
The initiative is a collaborative effort taken under the Prime Minister’s Youth Programme, wherein HEC, the United Nations Family Planning Association, and the Rahnuma-Family Planning Association of Pakistan (FPAP) have partnered to extend psychosocial support to the youth facing myriad challenges with regard to mental health.
National Youth helpline Launched a Ceremony at HEC
Executive Director HEC, Dr. Shaista Sohail, Additional Secretary (Prime Minister’s Youth Programme) Dr. Muhammad Ali, and Deputy Representative, UNFPA, Latika Maskey Pradhan formally inaugurated the National Youth Helpline.
Adviser (Global Engagement) HEC, Awais Ahmed, Director General (Scholarships), Aayesha Ikram, Director General (Quality Assurance), Nasir Shah, and other officials of the partnering organizations graced the launching ceremony with their presence.
While briefing doctor Shaista Sohail said that Pakistan’s population consists of 64% of youth which is in desired need to support and guidance for boosting their mental and psychological health to face challenges like the recent devastation of floods
By launching this helpline toll-free number Pakistani youth will be provided assistance and viable solution to their issues this helpline will provide services in two ships to ensure maximum assistance around the clock
While Addressing the ceremony, Latika Pradhan said that the youth, despite having robust connectivity tools and means, face psychosocial and mental issues including gender-based violence. She maintained that adolescence is an important period when the youth have to make choices for their entire life. This is the time they need support the most, she underlined.
