The education boards in Punjab are making a big change to help students with English and match global standards.
Starting from 2025, all matriculation exams in science and arts will be in English across the province. They’re gradually removing Urdu from question papers to have one language for all subjects. Additionally, from 2026, all optional subjects for FA exams will also be in English.
Even though formal approval is pending, education authorities are optimistic about getting it in the upcoming Punjab Boards Committee Chairmen (PBCC) meeting.
However, Rana Liaqat Ali, General Secretary of the Punjab Teachers Union, has some concerns. He’s worried about the challenges students might face with the language switch. He’s also emphasises the need to train teachers for a smooth transition and reduce student failure rates due to language barriers.
