PEMRA held a meeting on Tuesday 20th May 2014 today in which four private media authority members attended including Israr Abbasi from Azad Kashmir, Shama Parveen from Balochistan, Zeba Hussain from Sindh and Fariha Iftikhar from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P).
I would like to congratulate all of PEMRA’S private members for making this decision and send to the Council of Complaints (CoC) for recommendation in just a week’s time.
Now Geo TV’s licenses have suspended only till 28th May but the recommendation of the Council of Complaints final decision will be made.
Keep in mind PEMRA in an independent Organization of Pakistan that works under the constitution of Pakistan.
The committee has also orders to seal Geo offices and go off-air of all channels.
Mian Shams a private member of PEMRA organization said that cable operators have been conveyed the directions, adding that a letter has been sent to the interior ministry for security clearance of four licenses of Geo Network.
PEMRA may also cancel Geo Licenses permanently but the final decision will be made after 28th PEMRA Meeting, he added.
