Taiwan based Gigabyte U2442, looking like a laptop that deserves a bit more than just having a number to identify it! Anyway, the U2442 is a solid machine and sets up of the requirements as established by Intel to qualify as and ultrabook; it is light, thin and is powered by Intel Core processors of the 3rd generation. But there is more than meets the eye with the U2442 starting with the nice sized 14 inch screen in HD+ with LED back light display and a 1600 x 900 of pixel results.
It is going to be running either Windows 7 Home Premium or Professional or the latest Windows 8 or 8 Pro operating systems and it is powered by the 3rd Generation Intel Core i5-3210M Processor offering a 2.5 GHz to 3.1 GHz clock speed. There is support from the Mobile Intel HM77 Express Chipset available and the video is provided by the Intel HD Graphics 4000 and NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M 2GB video cards with support from the NVIDIA Optimus Technology.
The internal memory starts at 4 GB with 8 GB up to 16 GB of DDRIII in 2 slots. When it comes to storage the choices include the 128 GB mSATA solid state drive (SSD) or a 128 GB mSATA SSD + 750 GB up to 1 TB 2.5″ 9.5mm hard disk drive (HDD) 5400 rpm or there the 256 GB 2.5″ 9.5mm solid state drive (SSD) available too. When it comes to networking there is the 10/100/1000 Mbps Ethernet LAN Bluetooth V4.0 and the 802.11 b/g/n wireless LAN.
Other features include the two fast connecting USB 3.0 ports, two standard style USB 2.0 ports, D-sub & HDMI display ports, RJ45, Mic-in, Earphone-out, SD Card Reader, DC-in Jack and a built in 1.3 mega pixel web camera. The U2442 measures up at 339 mm (W) x 233 mm (D) x 18.5 mm to 21 mm (H) and weighs in at 1.59 kilos with the Li-polymer, 4.2V, 47.73Wh battery pack installed. Gigabytes have not provided any details on the price of the U2442 or even the availability of it.
