Central India MP Temple Stampede Death toll up to 112

October 14, 2013: MP India Temple Stampede Death toll rose to 112 and more than 100 others are injured, authorities said.

The stampede happened Sunday on a bridge over the Sindh River in Ratangarh, where journeyers were channelized to a temple for a Hindu fete.

A hearsay that the bridge was about to break caused panicky people to stampede, police told to media reporters. About 25,000 people were on the bridge at the time, a local deputy police inspector D.K. Arya, said.

Many people jumped off the bridge into the river, Arya said.

Ratangarh is in the central Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
