Ashraf Ghani takes million-vote lead in Afghan presidential

Afghanistan: The Independent Election Commission on Monday announced the Presidential Election winner Ashraf Ghani in Initial results. Final Results will be made till the end of this month.

While Addressing a press conference in Kabul, the chief election commission Afghanistan announced that Ghani had scored 55.44 percent of the 8 million votes cast in the second and final round. While the other contestant Abdullah Abdullah could only get 45 percent of the total votes cast in the first round but only managed to secure 43 percent in the final round.

In earlier round Ashraf Ghani had secured just 31 percent of the votes cast in the first round but manages to secure more than 55 percent of the votes cast in the final round of President Election 2014.

Ashraf Ghani Profile:

Dr. Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai born in 1949 in Logar, Afghanistan wher he get his early education. For higher studies go to abroad. After completing study he went back to home country and joined Kabul University in 1974 to teach students and later pursued a Master’s degree in Anthropology at Columbia University.

 

While he was away Afghanistan fell in the grip of war and he remained in exile, pursuing a Ph.D at Columbia. He was invited to teach at the University of California and at John Hopkins University. In 1991 he worked for the World Bank as lead anthropologist, a position he served at for the next 11 years.

Following the ouster of the Taliban in 2001, Dr. Ghani served first as a special adviser for the UN Secretary General’s envoy to Afghanistan and later as Chief Adviser to Interim President Karzai.

Ghani has earned his name very well while working as Finance minister of Afghanistan. He worked very well for implementing many of the difficult reforms as well as issuing a new currency in record time. His co- authored Book name is “Fixing Failed States”.

 

Abdullah’s Allegation Industrial Scale Rigging

Ghani’s competitor Abdullah Abdullah who secured the lions share of the votes cast in the initial round has alleged “industrial scale” rigging with ballot boxes being stuffed to result Ghani in office. Meanwhile Ashraf Ghani denies any rigging.
