Dengue fever: Minister tells depts to remain on alert

Dengue is Creeping in other provinces  of Pakistan and as a result of 10 deaths have occurred due to dengue virus so far, while 71 confirmed dengue cases have been reported in Punjab, where as total 943 dengue patients have been reported in Sindh province and in which 847 case of Karachi. About 1,056 confirmed dengue cases have been reported in district Swat, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa where 240 patients are under treatment in hospitals.

This was revealed in a meeting of Cabinet Committee held here on Wednesday to review the steps being taken by various departments to control dengue virus. Giving latest information about dengue, Secretary Health, Punjab Hassan Iqbal said that Punjab Health department had offered assistance and co-operation to Health departments of Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa regarding eradication of dengue and a team of clinicians and entomologists of Punjab visited district Swat for one week and provided training to doctors and other staff for the treatment of dengue patients and control of dengue.

On the instructions of Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif, Health department has donated two latest machines for blood tests of dengue patients. Hassan Iqbal said he himself contacted the health authorities of Sindh but the Sindh Health department has postponed the visit of Health professionals of Punjab to Karachi (brecorder).
